Once upon a time, in the cold and callous city of Manhattan, there was a so-called “heartless bastard” who became disillusioned with dating.

After struggling for far too long to find his “princess,” he vowed to remain single and use his skills to help other men find their ‘happily ever after’ instead.

Spoiler alert: That bastard was (and still is) me, and the only thing I regret is not ending that chapter of my life a lot sooner.

No matter how hard I tried, every relationship devolved into a blame game, with me as the reigning villain. Every flaw became mine, and every shortcoming piled up like wreckage on my side of the road. And God forbid I didn’t grovel or “sincerely apologize” for problems I didn’t cause.

Even when I was innocent, the failure to say “I’m sorry” made me guilty.

 Looking back now, though, I can finally see that all those women were one hundred percent right. So, even though I no longer believe in relationships, I start every day by apologizing.

For everything.
