Last Month’s Recap (with Pics!): Writing Like Crazy, Nicole London’s Birthday Brunch, Whimstery Work, + Life with Baby G.

by | May 4, 2025

OMG! April flew by so fast that I still can’t believe it’s over.

To be honest, some days last month were a repeat of each other: Wake up, hang out with Baby G until nap time, sneak in writing during nap time, hang out with Baby G even more, and then write, write, write on all the days when Mister G. is off work.

We experienced some CRAZY thunderstorms that made us buy more emergency survival kits and pull up A LOT of damaged trees that will take years to replace.

Still, through all that, I developed new characters for upcoming books, continued building Whimstery, and got a jumpstart on the spring gardening season.

Onto the notes and pictures!

Nicole London hosted her birthday via brunch at Toasted Yolk Cafe, and the mimosas and waffles were so effin good! She also asked everyone to dress up in cute sundresses, and (SHHH! don’t tell her) I’ll be stealing that idea soon…

I launched the founders’ page on the Whimstery website and shipped more signed cards and bookplates to any awesome reader who bought a network sticker. (Thank you. TRULY. <3)

I’ve always wanted to plant hydrangeas in the spring, but I was scared about caring for them. Alas, I finally took the plunge and bought two pretty pot mixes! I also found an AMAZING steal at Home Depot on some *huge* thuja green giant trees. (The size you see in the picture? That tree will cost you $90-120 easy at most nurseries…The price I paid? $17! GAHHH!)

Oh, and turns out, Baby G. LOVES the new cartoon version of Barney just as much as the old one, and she insists on carrying her Barney bus and Barney phone whenever we leave the house.

While I was teaching Baby G. all the wonders of composting, my mom flew to Houston to see a social-media-famous chiropractor. This is a doctor who gets rave reviews about how “amazing” and “out of this world” his technique is, and since my mom was at her wit’s end with her leg and back pain, she decided to give him a try.

She’d tried chiropractors and physical therapists in town already, so I was SUPER skeptical about seeing this random professional. Even after she showed me some of the guy’s videos on YouTube and Facebook, I was like, “Ummm…you sure about this?”

Alas, when I picked her up from the airport, she wasn’t limping AT ALL. And she was smiling while walking!

She says she’s never felt better, and it SHOWS. (The doctor is Dr. Tubio of The Aligned Clinic just in case you’re interested in making an appointment. I’m considering a trip to see if I can get “aligned,” too.)

There was an entire week in April when Baby G. and I made a new batch of cupcakes every day.

Why?

I still don’t know, but we don’t regret making or eating them.

Although Baby G has been weaned off the pacifier and regularly drinks from normal cups, she refuses to drink milk from anything other than a bottle. (We’ve decided it’s not worth the fight. For now.)

The month ended with back-to-back all-nighters, which jumpstarted (what I hope will be) a CRAZY MAY, and I’m seconds away from getting back into my document now.

F.L.Y. + Can we all make SPRING go slowwww as possible before letting summer come?

Whit
